Hi, I’m Raguel Broy,

After earning my Masters of Social Work from Howard University, I went on to earn post-graduate certification in Global Mental Health: Trauma Recovery from Harvard Medical School and a Trauma-Informed Approach Trainer certification from Florida State University. I am also a certified Mental Health First Aid trainer and CliftonStrengths coach, which means I don’t just teach the “what” of trauma, I help teams practice it in real time.

Today, I design and facilitate trauma-informed workshops for government agencies, schools, nonprofits, faith leaders, and community-based organizations. My sessions translate the research prevalence of trauma, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and the impact of the trauma life cycle on the brain- into practical tools staff and leaders can use to de-escalate, reduce harm, and better support the people with whom they work. Understanding that discussions and activities involving the trauma experience can leave individuals feeling emotionally open, I incorporate movement and healing practices into each workshop.

I am a passionate educator of Trauma-Informed Approach, a champion of vulnerable communities, yogi, mindfulness instructor and mental health advocate. Shortly after the 2015 uprising in Baltimore City, I was accepted into a year-long cohort to receive intensive training by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) on theTrauma-Informed Care model. This education expanded my knowledge as a mental health practitioner- it was a moment that changed the way I understood systems, communities, and healing. Since then, I have dedicated my work to helping organizations show up for people in ways that are safe, dignifying, and culturally responsive.

Before moving fully into social work and training development and facilitation, I worked in public relations, so I bring both a communications lens and a human-centered lens to every engagement.I hold close, Dr. Maya Angelou’s words, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” This quote is at the core of my work: helping organizations create experiences- policies, classrooms, services, meetings where people feel seen, heard and understood.
